In partnership with the Cal Poly Pomona Career Center, the Alumni Association is hosting a workshop! As the pandemic has negatively impacted the economy and many people are looking for work, this is your chance to hear firsthand from employers tips on how to successfully navigate finding a job in this environment. Alumni are able to submit up to three questions for the panel at the time of registration.

Alumni Guest Panelists:

Monique Garibay - Master of Urban & Regional Planning '17: Planner, City of Lancaster

Monique graduated in 2017 from Cal Poly Pomona and served as the president of the Graduate Planning Student Association while completing her last year in the program. She has worked for the cities of Covina and San Gabriel and is currently working as a Planner for the City of Lancaster. Planning in the public sector allows for a person to wear a number of different professional hats. Planners act as project managers, teachers, and facilitators. She is currently part of the American Planning Association (APA), which has allowed her to expand her network of professionals in the field, both public and private sector.

Mauro Ibarra - Master of Science in Electrical Engineering '13: Technology Consulting Senior Manager, Utilities Practice

Mauro Ibarra is a passionate, driven, and forward-looking leader within Accenture’s Utilities Strategy & Consulting practice. Since 2014, Mauro has been helping utility clients implement large scale IT solutions to achieve operational efficiencies and improve overall reliability. Prior to joining Accenture, Mauro spent several years working at SoCal Edison where he held roles within Transmission and Distribution Engineering, Project Management, and IT Services. Mr. Ibarra holds a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from Cal Poly Pomona and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of California, Riverside. Mauro is a certified Scrum Master and SAFe 4.5 Agilist and currently resides in Colton, CA.

Freddy Rivera - MHR '10: Sr. Diversity Program Manager, (NA Apps, Tech, NetSuite, and GBU’s)

Freddy Rivera is currently at Oracle, as a Senior Program Manager – Diversity Programs. Born and raised in Los Angeles, CA; Freddy is a first-generation high school/college graduate with a Nicaraguan Mother and Peruvian Father. He graduated from Cal Poly Pomona with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in Management & Human Resources, class of 2010. Freddy’s professional philosophy is everyone is a customer, everyone is a recruiter, data is your friend, have fun, and keep it.
